Pitching and defense was the key as Stamford Forge won two close games to claim the Fall 13u championship.
In the semi-final game, Forge edged out Instant Replay 2-1 on Jakson Geisler’s bases-loaded 2-run double. Starting pitcher Mason Deenihan notched the win, aided by key defensive plays from Jorge Hitlin, Brandon Vitali, Juaquin Velez and Joey Gjuraj. Hitlin recorded the last 4 outs for Forge to get the save.
In Sunday’s Championship game, Forge outpaced Stamford Firefighters 3-1. Key walks by Teddy Breault, Velez, and Parker Varnet drove in the 3 Forge Runs. Forge starter Jorge Hitlin allowed only one run before Jakson Geisler came into the game to get the 6 out save. Forge’s defense was error-free, sparked by 2B Mason Deenihan’s 4th-inning-ending double play at home plate. Andrew Soltes and Armando Quito had hits for the Firefighters while Cam Rubin’s exciting steal of home provided the Firefighter offense.
