Stamford Babe Ruth offers the best in youth baseball with programs offered to kids ages 12 to 18.
Stamford Babe Ruth also offers Extreme Thunder Baseball, a travel-based program which offers professional coaching, travel to other towns and states and tournament play. This program requires a significant commitment to the sport, your team, and coaches. All kids in every age group must tryout for each year to make the team. Tryouts are held before each season and each kid is evaluated based on several factors, such as skill, attitude, and effort. Teams are selected at the end of tryouts and the decisions are at the sole discretion of the team manager. All age groups offer Thunder programs.
Kids graduating from little league can get a jump start into Babe Ruth by signing up for "Fallball" in August to become acclimated to the bigger field, longer base paths, and pitching distances. All kids are placed on teams and teams are balanced to remain competitive against other Stamford teams, along with teams from surrounding towns, such as Darien, Wilton, and Greenwich, to name a few.
All kids not playing in the Thunder program, either by choice or due to not being selected to a Thunder program, are drafted by managers and coaches in our Stamford House program. Teams are assembled and drafted based on the evaluations done during tryouts and then selected using a round-robin format. 14/15U teams play against other Stamford teams, other towns and occasionally get involved in Tournaments during the Summer season. In some cases, kids that did not initially make a Thunder team will get selected to join a Thunder team later in the season, either to fill in or permanently fill a roster position as opportunities present. This is akin to a farm system in the majors.
This group is similar to the 14/15U age group, but where it differs is in the opportunities. As kids progress through high school and look forward to college, many kids hope of playing baseball in college and beyond. Stamford Babe Ruth continues to evolve and offer opportunities like our Blue Chip College Show Case Tournament. This tournament not only offers competitive baseball at the highest level but also draws scouts from all over the country and provides collegiate and professional exposure to players who might otherwise go unnoticed.
